🤔Imagine this...

You’re standing in Target mid-December. Peppermint mocha in one hand, a cart full of gifts in the other... and that sinking feeling creeping in.
"How did this get so out of hand again?"

If you’ve ever felt that Christmas was more stressful than joyful—this post is for you. Let’s grab a metaphorical cup of coffee and talk about how planning now can help you reclaim peace and purpose this holiday season.

The Truth Behind the $20 Illusion

In my podcast this week, I tossed out a number: what if you set aside $20 from each paycheck between now and Christmas? If you’re paid biweekly, that gives you about 10 paychecks—which adds up to $200.

But here’s the thing: most Americans spent over $1,000 on gifts alone last year. (Not counting wrapping paper, food, travel, decorations, or postage.)

That $20 plan? It won’t get you there. And that’s the point.

Most people don’t overspend because they’re irresponsible. They overspend because they never had a plan to begin with. Or they picked a savings number at random—without ever counting the cost.

The Problem Isn’t the Spending—It’s the Pretending

We think budgeting is restrictive. But really? Budgeting gives you permission to spend—without guilt or regret.

The real issue is when we pretend.
Pretend because we can swipe now and figure it out later.
Pretend we have no limits—because the card still works.
Pretend our kids will only be happy if they get everything they asked for.

But pretending steals from future you. It trades peace for pressure. Joy for debt. Presence for stress.

Let Reality Be the Reset

💭This week’s mindset challenge is simple:

          👀Look at your pay schedule.
         💰How many paychecks are left?
❓What can you realistically set aside from each one?

🎄Let that number be your Christmas budget.
Not your wishlist. Not your neighbor’s. Not Target’s.

And then ask: What do I want our home to feel like this Christmas? Because once you know what matters most, everything else becomes negotiable.

From Clarity Comes Creativity

When you know your real budget, creative ideas begin to surface:

✅Drawing names instead of buying for everyone.
✅Hosting a game night instead of a fancy dinner.
✅Choosing thoughtful gifts over expensive ones.

You begin to see the options that were hidden behind overwhelm. And if your kids are watching (and they are)... you’re showing them that peace is possible—even in December.

☕️Final Sip of Encouragement

Your budget is not a guilt trip. It’s permission. Permission to spend on what matters.

Permission to let go of what doesn’t.

Permission to rewrite the story—starting now.
