đ§ Listen to this episode right here or on your favorite podcast platform:
Youâre standing in Target mid-December. Peppermint mocha in one hand, a cart full of gifts in the other... and that sinking feeling creeping in.
"How did this get so out of hand again?"
If youâve ever felt that Christmas was more stressful than joyfulâthis post is for you. Letâs grab a metaphorical cup of coffee and talk about how planning now can help you reclaim peace and purpose this holiday season.
â
In my podcast this week, I tossed out a number: what if you set aside $20 from each paycheck between now and Christmas? If youâre paid biweekly, that gives you about 10 paychecksâwhich adds up to $200.
But hereâs the thing: most Americans spent over $1,000 on gifts alone last year. (Not counting wrapping paper, food, travel, decorations, or postage.)
That $20 plan? It wonât get you there. And thatâs the point.
Most people donât overspend because theyâre irresponsible. They overspend because they never had a plan to begin with. Or they picked a savings number at randomâwithout ever counting the cost.
We think budgeting is restrictive. But really? Budgeting gives you permission to spendâwithout guilt or regret.
The real issue is when we pretend.
Pretend because we can swipe now and figure it out later.
Pretend we have no limitsâbecause the card still works.
Pretend our kids will only be happy if they get everything they asked for.
But pretending steals from future you. It trades peace for pressure. Joy for debt. Presence for stress.
đThis weekâs mindset challenge is simple:
     đLook at your pay schedule.
     đ°How many paychecks are left?
âWhat can you realistically set aside from each one?
đLet that number be your Christmas budget.
Not your wishlist. Not your neighborâs. Not Targetâs.
And then ask: What do I want our home to feel like this Christmas? Because once you know what matters most, everything else becomes negotiable.
When you know your real budget, creative ideas begin to surface:
      â
Drawing names instead of buying for everyone.
      â
Hosting a game night instead of a fancy dinner.
      â
Choosing thoughtful gifts over expensive ones.
You begin to see the options that were hidden behind overwhelm. And if your kids are watching (and they are)... youâre showing them that peace is possibleâeven in December.
Your budget is not a guilt trip. Itâs permission. Permission to spend on what matters.
Permission to let go of what doesnât.
Permission to rewrite the storyâstarting now.
