Episode 8 – A Cup of Hope Podcast

💬 Have you ever thought your degree, your job title, or your success would finally make you feel confident?

You’ve achieved a lot.  Or maybe, you lived your dream of being a stay at home mom—but something still feels off. Deep down, you wonder:

“Is this all there is?”
“What’s my purpose, really?”
“Why do I still feel behind?”

In this episode of A Cup of Hope, we explore what it really means to learn who you are—and how to live from your God-given identity instead of your résumé.

📖 Scripture of the Week

Psalm 139 says:

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”
Your purpose doesn’t begin with your to-do list. It begins with the truth that God created you with intention, value, and love—before you did anything to earn it. Your identity is something you live from, not toward. And when you embrace who God says you are, your path becomes clearer.

Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT)

🧭 What We Talk About in This Episode

✅ You Are Not Your Résumé
✅ What Joseph’s Life Teaches Us About Purpose
✅ The Bowls Metaphor: A Visual for Living Aligned

📝 You Are Not Your Résumé

I share my own story of pursuing a Master’s degree hoping it would “fix” my insecurity—only to be passed over for an $11/hour job. I also talk about a young mom I recently met who felt disqualified because she didn’t have a degree. Different stories, same lie: “I’m not enough.”

🌱 What Joseph’s Life Teaches Us About Purpose

We reflect on Genesis and how Joseph’s identity didn’t change whether he was in the pit or the palace. I also share how a free Bible study from Thomas Road Baptist Church deepened my understanding of God’s love and faithfulness in the waiting.

🥣A Visual for Living Aligned

I introduce the Bowls Metaphor I use in coaching:

  • Vision (legacy and who you’re becoming)
  • Purpose (your why)
  • Mission (how you live it out today)
  • Goals (the specific steps you take)

When these bowls are nested in the right order, life feels aligned. When they’re flipped, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

✍️ This Week’s Coaching Challenge

📝What’s one small decision you can make this week that reflects the legacy you want to leave?
